Chesapeake Ice is a family-owned ice company based in Waldorf, Maryland. What began as a small local operation has grown into one of the DMV’s top ice suppliers. Our Story

From Local Startup
To Regional Ice Supplier

Chesapeake Ice was founded in 2001 as Elbert’s Ice Company by Paul and Ellen Elbert in Waldorf, Maryland. Originally started as an extension of a local fundraising business, the company quickly grew after Paul recognized a regional need for a trusted ice supplier. As demand increased, the business rebranded to Chesapeake Ice Company and expanded its operations. Today, the company is still family-owned and operated, delivering quality ice across the DMV, with its iconic lighthouse logo now seen on merchandisers, at stadiums, and throughout the community.

Chesapeake Ice has grown from a small operation into one of the most advanced ice companies in the region. We recently upgraded to a fully automated, hands-free plant that allows us to produce high volumes of crystal-clear packaged ice with unmatched consistency and food safety. Over the years, we’ve added new ice makers, palletizers, cold storage units, and a growing fleet of trucks to meet rising demand across Maryland and the entire DMV. From efficiency to reliability, we’ve built our operation to serve customers better, faster, and on a larger scale.

More than 20 years later, Chesapeake Ice is still proudly owned and operated by Paul and Ellen Elbert. We remain deeply rooted in the community where it all began in Waldorf, Maryland, and have become a recognizable part of the broader DMV region. Our lighthouse logo can be spotted on ice merchandisers at local stores, stadiums, and event venues throughout Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. While our operations have grown, our commitment to customer care and local connection has never changed.
